Who hasn’t heard of Hollywood? Not only is it a district of the city of Los Angeles but it is also so synonymous with the American movie industry that the word has been adopted into many languages as meaning the movie industry in general. However, in1835 there was one single hut residing on the site that is now Hollywood, a far cry from the many movie related companies that are present now. The movie industry itself has, on the whole, moved out of Hollywood but the companies remain as do the historic landmarks and the popular tourist attractions.

C. oleifera (Frost Princess), a small-flowered, fall flowering Chinese species, was used as the foundation of a sucessful cold hardy camellia breeding program. The resulting hybrids combine the plant cold hardiness of C. oleifera with the flower form and quality of showier species, C. hiemalis or C. sasanqua, and extend the reliablity of camellias as long-term landscape plants into Zone 6b in themid-Atlantic region.
