Jackson Hole is situated in the state of Wyoming and gained its rather unusual name because of the situation of the area. The valley is surrounded to the north and east by extremely steep slopes and when trappers first entered the region in order to catch beaver and other animals they found this descent to be a difficult one. Because of the steep slopes it felt like the trappers were entering a hole, hence the name Jackson Hole. Jackson Hole is particularly well known for its incredibly low temperatures during wintertime.
