It is widely believe that the city of Tempe is named after the Vale of Tempe in Greece because they bear a number of similarities. The All-America City Award has been won twice by Tempe and is the oldest award given for recognition of a community who tackle problems together. Awards are given to ten cities a year and it is considered a true honor to receive the award once, let alone twice. One of the biggest New Year’s Eve celebrations in America takes place in Tempe and was also the host site for Super Bowl XXX. There are an estimated 150,000 residents who live in the city.
