The county seat for Tulsa County and the second largest city in Oklahoma is Tulsa. Tulsa has a very deep and varied history that has seen the city take on many different forms in its past. Originally it was an Indian territory but the existence of the railroads changed this situation. In 1901 the discovery of oil converted the reailroad town into a rich and booming oil town. This boom ended in 1907 but a second boom was not far behind beginning in 1915 and lasting for 15 years. Unfortunately in 1921 race riots were the prevailing factor within the city and the oil economy has gone from boom to bust and back again several times since the 1980s.
